Marriage Protection Amendment Forced to Go on August Ballot
Church Needs to Rally to Protect Marriage as Ordained by God

Commentary by Jim Day, St. Louis MetroVoice

Governor Bob Holden, along with Attorney General Jay Nixon and six of the seven Missouri Supreme Court Justices, have pulled a fast one by forcing Missouri’s Secretary of State, Matt Blunt, to place one of the most critical changes to Missouri’s Constitution in decades on the August 3rd Primary ballot. The good news is that the proposed change (a constitutional amendment) strengthens Missouri’s ban on same-sex marriages by inserting into Section A, Article 1 of our state's constitution the words That to be valid and recognized in this state,

Governor Bob Holden and
Attorney General Jay Nixon
a marriage shall exist only between a man and a woman.” The bad news is that Holden, Nixon, their buddies on the Supreme Court and their homosexual supporters are counting on a small voter turnout for the August Primaries to defeat the proposed amendment.

August v. November Elections
So, what difference does it make which election -- the August 3rd Primary or November 2nd General – has the amendment on the ballot? There are over 1.5 million reasons why it makes a difference! According to Kerry Messer of Missouri Family Network, during the 2000 election cycle over 1.5 million Missourians did not vote in the August Primary elections.

MBC Launches State Campaign to Stop Branson Casino on Aug 3rd Ballot
By Allen Palmeri, MBC Staff Writer

The Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) has launched a campaign to defeat an August 3rd ballot initiative seeking to place a casino in family-oriented Branson, MO. Dubbed the ‘No Mo. Gambling’ campaign, it’s designed to educate Missourians on the hazards of gambling while encouraging churches to get actively involved in registering voters and getting them to the polls on August 3rd, said MBC Executive Director David Clippard. “If every Missouri Baptist will influence four friends, we can defeat this initiative,” Clippard said.

Rockaway Beach, located about 10 miles from Branson, is the object of the ballot question going before the voters: “Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to authorize floating

gambling facilities on or adjacent to the White River in Rockaway Beach, Missouri, to be licensed and regulated consistent with all other floating facilities in the state of Missouri, with 50 percent of the state revenues generated in the current year to be used for uniform salary supplement grants to all high quality teachers employed in priority schools, and the remaining state revenues generated in the current year to be distributed to all priority school districts on a per pupil basis for capital improvements to education facilities?”
